The Air-O-Swiss Ultrasonic Cool Mist Humidifier 7145 is a high-quality ultrasonic humidifier featuring a premium titanium transducer surface, which uses adjustable high-frequency vibrations to turn water into a micro-fine mist, which is blown into the room to evaporate. Unlike other ultrasonic humidifiers, the Air-O-Swiss titanium transducer surface is much stronger than ordinary metals, resists rust, lasts longer and requires less cleaning. The Air-O-Swiss 7145 features a tri-band microbial protection system which guarantees that the water will be kept free from harmful bacteria and viruses. A replaceable demineralization cartridge (Ag+ Ionic Silver Technology) helps reduce ?white dust" (lime scale and other mineral deposits from the mist output). In addition, the patented Ionic Silver Stick uses aqueous silver ions to control microbial growth for up to one year of continuous use. It is self-regulating and maintenance-free.

My unit worked well out of the box and appeared to be a great little unit, but the brassy/gold coating on the ultrasonic membrane is almost completely gone after only a couple months of use and the unit no longer produces a mist. It appears I have the exact same problem as the previous reviewer James. I can only assume that they got a bad batch of membranes and will have this remedied promptly, and am returning the unit under its 3-year warranty for a replacement. Considering the unit's only two months old, time will tell how many replacements I go through in the next three years if they don't fix the design...

I bought this after reading a review of vaporizers / humidifiers in Good Housekeeping magazine, http://www.goodhousekeeping.com/product-testing/reviews-tests/appliances-electronics/best-humidifiers. This Air O Swiss model is different than the one recommended by GH, but it is AWESOME.

It's a cold mist, so it's safe for kids / pets; I only need to fill it once a day; it is designed so that it won't grow mold or harbor germs / viruses; very fine mist & leaves no powdery residue. VERY EASY to USE! AWESOME!

BONUS -- much lower energy costs than other humidifiers / vaporizers AND much more effective.

I ordered this unit after reading various reviews online, to replace an older Honeywell humidifier in my children's room. It is exactly as promised; it does its work quickly and effectively, generating a fine mist with no residue. It requires little maintenance compared with standard, filter humidifiers and it allows the user to control not only the humidity level but also the rate by which it reaches that level. My only complaint? It is TOO QUIET! My older, noisier machine served also as a white-noise system to help my children sleep. Now, I have to go out and buy a real white noise machine. I guess that's not much of a complaint. If you're serious about getting a top level humidifier at a reasonable price, get this one.

The humidifier is very quiet on the low setting. There are only 2 fan speeds so it was kept simple. It has a very innovative design because there is no tank to remove and fill under the sink. Instead you can add water from the top using a pitcher. The replacement wicks are more pricey than the Vornado evaporative humidifier. The cost of the wicks is a concern if you let it run out of water because then the wicks will gather dust and need more cleaning or possible replacement depending on how long you have let it run empty. (I edited this review so I would have put 4 stars rather than the original 5 but the "edit review" features do not allow you to change the number of stars.)

I've owned and operated another AOS product for many years. I was recently in the market for a new humidifier/evaporator, so I visited the best retail store(accepts all coupons and has great return policy) with the best AOS selection around-Bed, Bath and Beyond. The egg shaped AOS unit looks certainly appealed to me, as well as the price. So here are my thoughts:
Design: Excellent. Red DOT Award Winner. Light,sleek and user friendly

Quality: NOT MADE IN CHINA. The unit is made in Switzerland. I think the only itmes exported to the US from Switzerland these days are watches, humidifiers, gourmet chocolate and cookies.

Use: The only humidifier I know of that you can fill like a flower pot. It is so simple to use. The finger slider switch at the front has only three modes for simple adjustment.

Noise: Level 1 is quiet. Level 2 is slightly louder without doubt, but nothing to really complain about, although, if used in a bedroom the sound my be... Read more

I have had a new humidifier every year for 5 years until this! I bought the AOS E2441 3 years ago (Jan 2008) and couldn't be happier with it. It is still working as well as it did when I bought it. Indeed, AOS hasn't even changed the design since then.

Likes:
-Very quiet, both on high and low. I use low and it has no problem keeping my room comfortable (my room is only 20x10 and I keep the door closed).
-Great water refill design. You just pour water into the top of this and it fills the internal tank. On models with tanks, I had to use the bath tub to fill my previous units because the tank wouldn't fit in the sink. I just keep a bucket that fits in my sink in a cabinet to fill this up.
-The replacement filter is only $17 with free shipping. This is pretty reasonable considering it lasts a year for me.

Dislikes:
Not much. Could hold more water. With this design, it wouldn't take much and wouldn't matter if it were "too heavy."... Read more

I had been pricing and comparing the substantial number of humidifiers on the market and I am glad I settled on the Air-O-Swiss. Despite its higher price, I am quite satisfied with its functions, control, design and specifically, its quiet operation. I was looking to pay between $70-150 for a quiet, low-maintenance model to add humidity to my [very dry] 10x12' bedroom. I purchased it at a local store for the same price as listed on Amazon; I am glad I was able to see [and hear] this model in operation.

There is NO sound, even at the highest setting. I'm a light sleeper and cannot fathom a bedroom appliance that even approaches a dull hum.

The visible mist generated by this model is pleasant for me and my pets.

I have been refilling each morning, as I have had the device on a high setting and running nonstop.The compartment becomes about half-empty after a full day at this setting. Refilling is a snap.

With not having much experience with buying humidifiers, I purchased this one based on some online research and with the help of user reviews. I was very worried about the noise factor that comes with having a cool mist humidifier but this one passes with flying colors. I'm a very light sleeper and require almost total silence in order to fall asleep. I can't even tell that this machine is in the same room! I love the fact that it can be switched from cool to warm mist at the press of a button and that I can control the amount of mist and how fast or slow it comes out. The only downfall that I've experienced is how difficult it is to keep clean. The still water that sits in the unit's base will have a black build up. This same build up is located at the base of the blue, water-holding section, as well as the tube and attachment the mist comes out of. This humidifier is fantastic but I cannot get rid of the white dust. Despite the fact I'm replacing the desmineralization cartridge regularly, this humidifier is producing a lot of white dust.
